Cameron Antique Fair

Herb and I have been working all day getting ready for Cameron. I have a nice firkin that someone put shiny lacquer on, so I took that shine away, this is a nice one too, no staples, copper nails, also worked on one that someone painted yellow, probably was painted back in the 80's, took the shine off it too. Just working on several smalls that needed this or that. What a beautiful day its been. From what I am hearing Friday and Saturday are going to be perfect!
The show is open Friday from noon to 5, then again on Saturday from 9-5, don't wait too late in the day Saturday, because alot of dealers seem to start tearing down around 3 or so.

Two Ingredient Pumpkin Cake

My niece, Heather was talking about this and thought I would try it, low in calories and easy, my style!
Yes, its very good, can do it in a cake, cookies, muffins, whatever your heart desires.

Fall Tablerunner

We got these tablerunners in yesterday and they have such wonderful warm fall colors, perfect to decorate your fall farm table. We are sold out of the gourds, trying to get some more though.

Back in Stock!

Today we finally got some of the pussy willow lighted stems in, and some of the plain lighted stems, and a few of the lighted battery stems. Supplys are limited, so hurry in!

Tapers with Timer!

We got some tapers in that take two AA batteries and when you turn them on, they burn for 6 hours, then shut off for 18 hours then come back on. We have had these in pillars but now they have come out with them in tapers, pretty cool, huh? Someone asked me about these at our Fall Open House, and I had a line at the time and couldn't connect with what they were saying and I had these on order! Guess I am not much of a multi-tasker! In the picture you can see one of these tapers in a lantern.

Hummingbird?

Yesterday when I opened, I had some customers talking about a bee that looked like a hummingbird in my flower bed, so I had to look too! I looked it up and I think its what is known as a sphinx moth, it flies like a hummingbird, but it stuck around for me to photograph him, unlike a hummingbird, they are so quick! They also have that long beak like a hummingbird. I had never seen one before and really thought it was neat, so thought I would share it with you. Maybe they aren't that uncommon, but to me it was. New Judy Condon Book, Simple Greens, Simply Country!

We have been on the road all day, just got home tonight and on the porch was the new Judy Condon book, this one is the Christmas issue.
We also got more of the log cabin birdhouses, the big two story ones and the one that was on the cover of Merchantile Gatherings. These will be in the shop on Thursday.

Welcome Fall Gathering

The Welcome Fall Gathering is now history, we had a fantastic turnout, and I want to thank you all for coming, you came from near and far.

The winners of the gift certificates are Debbie Plocar, Raeford, Treasure Davis, Holly Springs, Pat Cathey, Graham, and Lonese Powell from Whiteville. Congrats!

Next on the agenda is Cameron, which will be on Oct 1 in the afternoon on Friday and then on October 2, on Saturday. Hoping for a nice cool fall day.

Sylvia found these burner tops in an old barn, we thought they would make a nice patio table or be great in a garden, they were used in old tobacco barns, they are the top of the burner, and another part of NC history.

Don't forget we are closed today for the holiday.

Ok, we are READY!

The shop is full and overflowing with fall. And tomorrow isn't supposed to be quite as hot as it was today, sure glad for that!

And the best news is my foot is soooo much better!

Oh Dear!

I took this picture of a wreath that Georgia brought in, I love it.
I fell at the shop this morning and now I am at home with ice on my foot, Herb is running the shop, sure hope it starts feeling better, I have "things" to do!

Broom Corn?

Have you ever heard of it? I hadn't, and Brunie was telling me about it, and of course I just had to have some, its great for hanging on pegs, the colors are so fall looking. Just got some in yesterday.

Got some gourds in too.....dear me, I never knew how much work was involved in cleaning gourds, and now I have been waxing them, I think I have lost my mind. First you put them in water with some fabric softener to loosen the skin, then you get one of those copper scrubbers and scrub, scrub, scrub, then you put them in bleach water and scrub some more(I lost several, guess I put too much power in the scrubbing, they collapsed!), then you let them dry. Well, the other day I was Briwaxing something and tried some on a gourd, and it really gave it a great look, so.......well you know the story.

Getting Ready for Welcome Fall, Harvest Gathering

Here we have a Pumpkin Gal, with her pumpkin, and old measure with Sunflower heads in it, and some prairie cloth(this looks great tied around an old canning crock).

In this picture we have a pumpkin with a witches hat and some bats flying all around! This is done by Georgia.

Pie Safe Just In!

We just got this really nice pie safe in, I think its poplar, its a nice one, its an 8 tin one, has tin on the sides. If I had a place for it, it would be in my house, I am still looking around.....trying to decide which piece I could part with!

Headin Home!

We will be headin back to NC this morning, not excited about that long drive, but its always nice to get back home to our own bed. Hate leaving family though, got to see all my brothers and sisters this time, which is nice, and of course got to see my Momma!!!
Will be checkin on emails for the calendars and magazine, I haven't forgotten any of you.

Going To Market

Oh boy, you have no idea what its like, people pulling garbage cans on wheels, grabbing, pushing, filling their arms, long lines to pay, and while your waiting another booth is selling out, thats where Herb comes in, I grab what I can, give it to him, and let him wait in line as I move to the next booth. One booth yesterday had the coolest stuff, and I could see this scarecrow in a can I thought was so neat, but this woman was in my way, I couldn't get to him, she was just taking up space talking to the booth owner, so I asked her to pass it to me, as I saw another lady eyeing it, she said she had just had surgery and couldn't get it(well, get out of my way then!), this is when Herb sees my frustration and comes to my rescue and reaches around her and scoops it up for me! I GOT it! Hope someone loves it as much as I did. These ladies had some real original work and their booth was empty in no time. This is what your up against, people with hand carts, trash cans on wheels, long lines, we did what we could, then headed to Springfield antique show, as we walked in, this lady is packing up, storms a comin and she wasn't getting caught in it, others were putting plastic on their tables....we found a few things, but not much at all. Dern!
Got to see Barb and Giles though, they were set up at the Country Gathering building, a barn full of top notch primitive dealers. Their booth looked wonderful as usual,looked like a log cabin.
Will be heading back to NC in the morning, most of what we have will be for the either Christmas open house or the Welcome Fall Gathering on Sept. 4. So hold on! There is alot of new things in the shop though if you haven't been in in a couple weeks, lots of fall, and Dee sold alot of it yesterday.

Great Weekend!

We had a really good weekend here at the shop! Saw lots of friends and some new faces too, I love new customers! Most of the time when I ask how they found me, you know what their answer is? "Just Drivin by and pulled in". or this one, we hear it daily, "I have been driving by for years and today I decided to stop". We have been open for over 13 years, where have you been? I guess I am just nosey, but if I was driving by, I would have to stop and see what was inside! Anyway, glad they finally stopped and hope they come again!
